Copilot and AI FAQs

Can Flux’s AI Copilot read datasheets or suggest component choices?

Yes. Copilot uses AI to process datasheet information and provide recommendations for PCB layout and component selection. It can suggest parts based on specifications and flag potential mismatches

What's the difference between the original Copilot and the new Copilot Chat?

Flux has upgraded to a new Copilot Chat interface which replaces the original Copilot tab and Copilot in canvas comment threads. The new Copilot Chat tab offers improved AI capabilities and a more streamlined user experience. The original Copilot is still available in pre-Copilot Chat projects but is being phased out.

Key differences:

  • You no longer need to tag "@copilot" or select Copilot Experts in your messages
  • Access Copilot directly through the Chat tab in the right sidebar
  • Enhanced AI capabilities with improved context understanding
  • Improved tools and actions that allow Copilot to perform tasks on your behalf, such as:
  • Adding, editing, or removing components and nets
  • Changing component designators and properties
  • Assisting with routing and layout suggestions

For more details, see the Copilot documentation

Can I use JavaScript or scripting to automate tasks?

No, apart from writing simulation models, Flux does not support scripting for automating PCB design.

Will Flux’s AI Copilot optimize my schematic or PCB layout automatically?

Copilot provides recommendations and assists with tasks like:

  • Searching the library
  • Performing calculations
  • Add, remove, or replace components in a project
  • Re-assign designators and component values.
  • Assisting with wiring
  • Analyzing images However, you retain final control over design decisions.
